At Thomas’ Hope Foundation, we are a family. We spread love, support, and understanding. This type of support system is crucial for anyone’s recovery journey. Going through this chapter of your life alone can feel impossible; there is nothing wrong with leaning on friends and family for support, as long as you remember that this is your OWN personal journey. Approach it the way you desire, at your own pace; as long as you are walking away from harmful habits, that’s all that matters to us! Surround yourself with people who uplift and empower you. Seek out those who see your strengths and support your growth, rather than those who dwell on past mistakes. You should aim to fill your life with optimism, opportunities, and hope.

“The goal isn’t to be sober. The goal is to love yourself so much that you don’t need to drink”

You need to love yourself more than your addiction. We want you to understand how loved you are, and how much you should love YOURSELF. We recognize and acknowledge that substance use is often associated with underlying issues, such as mental health, unhealthy coping mechanisms, and unhealthy relationships that have been prevalent for years. There is hope, and it’s never too late to work on yourself. You deserve to rise up and overcome this challenge, and we are here to help.

First, you need to reflect on your mental health. Anxiety, depression, and trauma can alter your brain chemistry. With this, not all mental health solutions work for each individual; everyone is unique, which is not a negative quality. If therapy hasn't felt helpful in the past, know that there are many different approaches and therapists out there. It's important to find what works best for you. And remember, seeking support is a sign of strength, not weakness. Mental health changes your self-image, leading many to be discouraged and close-minded. Acknowledging these underlying conditions is the first step of your self-love journey. Be kind to yourself throughout this journey.

Self-compassion is essential for healing and growth. Remember that everyone makes mistakes, and it's how we learn and move forward that matters most. There are many ways to cope with your psychological health! If you're feeling lost, Thomas' Hope Foundation offers resources and guidance to help you explore different paths to mental wellness.

Connecting with others who understand can be a powerful part of recovery. Support groups offer a welcoming space to share experiences and build community. Some individuals also find individual therapy beneficial, especially when working through trauma or co-occurring mental health conditions. It's important to find the support system that feels right for you. Being surrounded by others in recovery could make you feel part of a community, which is so important. Building new, healthy connections can be your next step on your self-love journey. Maybe you stayed in unhealthy relationships and friendships because you felt that was all you had and all you deserved. But you deserve so much more! You deserve to branch out and connect with others who understand, not judge. Don’t let anyone tell you less!

Finding Your Path: Diverse Approaches to Recovery

It's important to remember that recovery is not a one-size-fits-all journey. What works for one person may not work for another, and that's perfectly okay. There are many different paths to recovery, and it's crucial to find the approach that best suits your individual needs and preferences.

Support Systems: More Than Just Groups

While support groups can be incredibly valuable, offering a sense of community and shared experience, they're not the only source of support available. Some individuals may find individual therapy more beneficial, allowing for personalized guidance and deeper exploration of their challenges. Others may prefer online communities, where they can connect with people from around the world who understand their struggles.

One of the last important steps of your self-love journey should be pursuing personal goals and passions. Recovery should open the door to discovery. Try to remember what hobbies and habits made you feel pure bliss; you need to rediscover who you were before addiction. Not only that, but you should also explore new interests! This can be something as small as learning to knit or roller skate, or a major career shift. A major part of recovery is building self-esteem. Find the things that make you smile and make you feel confident. Don’t settle for anything less! Discover yourself and your passions, and do not limit yourself. Don’t be afraid of change, because in this journey, change is the GOAL.

Lastly, what do you want your future to look like? What goals do you want to achieve BEYOND your recovery?
